Maine Court Records
The Maine Courts website is a public informational resource that outlines the network of courts and records that collectively make up the judicial system in the State of Maine. In Maine, the District Courts have limited authority over minor criminal and civil matters, the Superior Courts handle felonies and major civil cases, and the Supreme Judicial Court, the state's court of last resort, issues final decisions on appealed cases.
Access to Maine court records—the records of judicial proceedings—follows the framework established in the Maine Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) and the Supreme Court's Administrative Order JB-05-20. These regulations establish the public's right to inspect most court documents and the categories of records exempt from disclosure. This portal offers general information only and is not a substitute for official records.
